The City Council approved a contract with Illumination Fireworks from Carrollton during a Dec. 6 meeting for the 2023 show that will be held over Lake Grapevine. The 2023 show has an approved contract to not exceed $65,200—18% more than the contract for the 2022 show. The money is from the convention and visitor bureau fund.

The oce of the city secretary for each city is responsible for conduct- ing the election. It coordinates with Tarrant County elections for local, state and federal elections.

UP FOR ELECTION The following city council seats will be voted on during the May 6 election.

TARRANT COUNTY Residents of Grapevine, Colleyville and Southlake interested in City Council spots can le for candidacy in their respective cities now through Feb. 17. Early voting will begin April 24 with election day May 6. Grapevine City Council seats for places 5 and 6—both three-year terms—will be on the ballot for the city. Place 5 is held by Chris Coy, and Place 6 is held by Du O’Dell. Eligible candidates for Grapevine must have been a resident of the city for at least six months prior to the election date, be a registered voter in Texas and not be indebted to the city. Places 3 and 4 in Colleyville are up for election. Both seats are three- year terms. Place 3 is held by Kathy Wheat, and Place 4 is held by George Dodson. GRAPEVINE A new sign, stylized as a vintage split-ap design seen in railway stations, will be built near Grapevine Main Station. Grapevine City Council unani- mously approved the monument sign at its Jan. 17 meeting. It will be located near Grapevine Main along East Dallas Road. Planning Services Director Erica Marohnic said the sign will be 6 feet tall and 10 feet wide. SOUTHLAKE The City Council approved a variance change during the Jan. 3 meeting. The variance is for Mach 1800, an oce building located at 1800 E. Hwy. 114. The building owners went before the council in early 2022 for a variance, but a revamped plan was presented in the Dec. 6 meet. A public hearing was held on that date with no one objecting. The building owners will redo the entrance with a mix of stucco and wood beams on the south entrances that face the highway.
