ROUND ROCK ISD Officials are undertaking steps to end the Texas Education Agency’s monitoring of the school board. TEA monitors report on the activities of a board of trustees or a superintendent. The TEA assigned monitor David Faltys to RRISD in September 2021 based on complaints centered on con- flicts of interest and board overreach, according to district documents. Board President Amber Landrum said March 23 that she and

Superintendent Hafedh Azaiez visited TEA Deputy Commissioner Steve Lecholop on March 6 to discuss the status of the district’s corrective action plan and the development of an exit plan. Landrum said the review of prog- ress on the board’s corrective action plan would be the start of next steps for ending the intervention. She did not share additional details regarding a timeline or details regarding this process as the district awaits guid- ance from the TEA.

Dual-language program to remain at Callison Elementary

ROUND ROCK ISD Students enrolled in the district’s dual-language program at Neysa Callison Elementary School will remain there following community feedback on plans to transition the program to other campuses. Maritza Gallaga, interim chief of public affairs and communications at RRISD, said the district told parents in March that the program would be split between two campuses in the upcoming 2023-24 school year to balance

enrollment on dual-language campuses districtwide. The shift was intended to improve instruction and maximize access to resources, Gallaga said. “After hearing the passion and feedback from our Callison community and further consideration of the educational program in our district, the decision was made to keep the dual-language program at Callison for the foreseeable future,” Gallaga said.
