CISD trustees name new intermediate principal

CONROE ISD On Feb. 19, the Conroe ISD board of trustees unanimously approved Christa Haymark to be the new principal of Vogel Intermediate School for the 2019-20 school year. Superintendent Curtis Null said the district was looking for a principal with a background in education and instructional leadership. “One of the things we wanted to achieve with this new principal is maintaining that family atmosphere, so it seemed very appropriate to bring back an educator that had been a teacher and that has gone on to gain administrative experience at another campus to return back to Vogel as principal,” Null said.

CONROE ISD For her work in preven- tive guidance counseling, Bradley Elementary School counselor Ashley Wright was named Elementary School Counselor of the Year by the Texas School Counselor Association in January. She was honored with the award Feb. 10 at the 14th annual Profes- sional School Counselor Conference in San Antonio hosted by the TSCA. According to the TSCA, the award is given annually to an outstand- ing school counselor at each level, including elementary, middle and junior high school, high school and counselor supervisor. Conroe ISD recognized Wright for her achievement at the board of trustees meeting Feb. 19, when Brad- ley Elementary Principal Christine Butler told trustees about the positive effect Wright has made on the lives of students, staff and families. “She brings her bundle of energy in the morning to greet students with

Runyan Elementary School since 2016.

Before Runyan, Haymark was a

fifth-grade science and social studies teacher at Vogel from 2008-16.

Haymark will replace Vogel Prin- cipal Tara Vandermark, who will serve as principal at the new Suchma Elementary School when it opens in August. “I am committed to building on the foundation of educational excellence at Vogel,” Haymark said.

a smile and a high five or a hug, and somehow that same level of energy lasts throughout the day—regardless of what the day holds,” Butler said. Wright said she has worked for CISD since 2012, when she was hired as an elementary school teacher at Armstrong Elementary School. Since she became the counselor at Bradley, Wright has implemented various initiatives at the campus, including the Den Squad program in which student leaders are encour- aged to greet fellow students in the morning with daily announcements. Ashley Wright, a counselor at Bradley Ele- mentary School, was honored Feb. 10.
