Magnolia ISD names JD Berna athletic director

Board approves funding for safety and security improvements at Tomball ISD junior high schools

MAGNOLIA ISD The Magnolia ISD board of trustees unanimously voted to hire JD Berna, head football coach for Magnolia West High School, as the district’s new athletic director at the board’s Feb. 11 meeting. Berna replaces former Athletic Director Mike Spradlin, who was named the head football coach of Rockwall-Heath High School, located in Rockwall, Texas, in January. Berna has served as the head foot- ball coach for Magnolia West since 2016 and was named District 20-5A coach of the year in 2017, according to a MISD news release. TOMBALL ISD The Tomball ISD board of trustees unanimously approved an agreement with Custom Access & Integration LLC on Feb. 12 to imple- ment safety and security upgrades at the district’s three junior high schools. Electronic access controls will be added to external doors at Creekside Park, Tomball and Willow Wood junior high schools to improve security at the campuses. The board of trustees approved more than $41,000 for the Creekside Park upgrades; $46,610 for Tomball Junior High; and $83,575 for security upgrades to Willow Wood Junior High. The improvements will be
