CONROE ISD A future elemen- tary or intermediate school site will be built within master-planned community Artavia, developer Airia Development Company announced in a Feb. 15 news release from the district. Conroe ISD closed on land for the 15.75-acre site, the first of two school sites planned within the 2,200-acre community, according to the release. “We are thrilled to have Conroe ISD as part of the Artavia commu- nity,” Mark Hardy, senior vice presi- dent of development/acquisitions for Airia Development Company, said in the release. “This has been part of the Artavia master plan all along and marks the importance of preserving space for educational facilities, which contribute to the

Osteopathic Medicine in Conroe will launch its first accredited resident physician program in July, Sam Houston State University announced. According to a Feb. 16 news release, the College of Osteopathic Medicine will partner with Huntsville Memorial Hospital for a residency in family medicine. Dean of the College of Osteopathic Medicine Thomas Mohr said he is excited for this collab- oration between the university and the hospital. “The mission of Sam Houston State University’s College of Osteopathic Medicine is to train high-quality physicians who will improve access to primary care in rural areas and communities in need throughout East Texas and beyond,” he said in the release. “Development of residency training programs in these

areas is an important component of that mission.” The first class of the College of Osteopathic Medicine will graduate in 2024 from the Conroe campus, which opened in 2020. According to the release, residency training takes place after completing medical school in a hospital or clinical setting for three years. The program is set to enroll its first class of four family medicine physicians in July and will grow to a maximum of 12 residents. The Huntsville Rural Health Clinic will serve as the primary teaching venue.
