YMCA of Greater San Antonio had 10 vacant after-school positions at the end of 2021, said Shannon Gowen, senior director of mission advance- ment and communications. YMCA of Greater San Antonio employs more than 1,300 people overall. To help ll positions, the local YMCA is oering $250 sign-on bonuses for select jobs. Stacy Oksenberg, the orga- nization’s senior vice president of human resources, said many people are re-evaluating what is important to themwhile seeking employment. “The work is entry-level, but it’s great for exibility. It makes people feel like they’re doing something that’s important, meaningful [and] impactful,” Oksenberg said.

This can only help our local econ- omy,” he said. “Many employers are still trying to adjust to this new reality and the dust has not settled yet, since we are still living in the pandemic with upticks in cases and surges.
