SCHOOL NOTES 9 Texas State University announced Jan. 3 it will temporarily hold classes vir- tually from Jan. 18-30 amid the COVID-19 surge. Classes will return to in-person instruction Jan. 31. Texas State campuses, including the main campus at 601 Univer- sity Drive, San Marcos, will remain open as will the Alkek Library, LBJ Student Center and the student health center. www.txstate.edu COMMUNITY 10 The City Recreation Hall , located at 170 Charles Austin Drive, San Marcos, will be renamed to the Pauline Espinosa Com- munity Hall, approved by the San Marcos Parks and Recreation Board on Dec. 16. In June, the board invited residents and local

organizations to submit their nominations. The Council for Indigenous and Tejano Community submitted Pauline Espinosa, a Mexican American business owner and community leader in the 1930s in San Mar- cos. Though approved by the parks board, the nomination must still be approved by City Council. 512-393-8400 CLOSINGS 11 Cicis Pizza , located at 1101 Thorpe Lane, Ste. 107, San Marcos, closed in No- vember. A sign posted on the front door states it has permanently closed after serving the community for the past three years. The location of the chain opened in September 2018 and is known for it pizza and buet. The closest location of Cicis Pizza is located at 5695 Kyle Parkway, Ste. 400, Kyle. www.cicis.com

FEATURED IMPACT IN THE NEWS AquaBrew , located at 110 E. Martin Luther King Drive, Ste. 130, San Marcos, announced Jan. 4 a merger with ShotGun Seltzer, the rst craft seltzer of Texas. AquaBrew was founded in 2016 by Carlos Russo in a small pub and in 2021 relocated into its current facility that includes a 20,000-square-foot production oor. Lori and Brad Foster founded ShotGun Seltzer in 2019 with over 20 years of experience in the industry. Lori said they knew that eventually they would have to build their own brewery, buy one or partner with one that could handle their rising demand.
