JUNE 16 DISCUSS JUNETEENTH The Lewisville Talks-City Speaker Series will feature Denton-based author Donald Norman-Cox to speak about his book, “Juneteenth 101: Popular Myths and Forgotten Facts.” The book takes a closer look at the annual observance commemorating June 19, 1865, which is the day the U.S. Army came to Galveston to ensure Texans would comply with the Emancipation Proclamation. The presentation will be followed by a screening of “Miss Juneteenth,” a lm directed by Fort Worth native Channing Godfrey Peoples. The lm depicts a former beauty queen and single mother preparing her teenage daughter for the Miss Juneteenth pageant. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Free. Lewisville Grand Theater, 100 N. All concerts are family- friendly. Each night features a new band. On June 17, Time Machine will take the stage to feature music from the ‘70s, ‘80s and ‘90s. On June 24,
Toxic: A Britney Spears Experience will feature top Britney Spears songs and choreography. 7:30-9 p.m. Free. The concert will feature bands including 4 Ya Soul Band, The Elton Johns, Grupo Vida and Back in Black. Its July 5 show will feature reworks and music by Ashmore Classic Rock. The event features a two-hour cruise on Lewisville Lake, a three-course meal, a DJ and a comedy performance. INDEPENDENCE FEST BAKERSFIELD PARK
The Town of Flower Mound will host its annual Independence Fest. Randy Rogers Band will headline the event. The festival will feature activities for all, such as a children’s parade, a vintage car show, vendors, live entertainment and a rework show. Gates open at 5 p.m. Free.
