Construction on Highland Village Road sidewalk begins The new sidewalk will connect to the existing sidewalk at the High- land Village Municipal Complex and head east along the east side of Highland Village Road, according to a city news release. The project is funded through a 2018 bond issue and was projected to cost about $883,350. Howev- er, the price increased by about $26,255 after the original contrac- tor defaulted on the project and a new contractor was hired by the city. Completion of the sidewalk will increase pedestrian safety along the road, according to the news release. Timeline: Fall 2022 Cost: $883,350 Funding source: 2018 bond
Closures continue on Waketon Road The westbound Waketon Road lane closure between Kings and Chinn Chapel roads remains in place as construction continues on the Waketon project. The Waketon project is an $8.47 million joint project with the town of Double Oak. The overall project limits are from Cross Timbers Drive in Double Oak to Parksdale Drive in Flower Mound, according to the release. The Flower Mound section of the project includes the upgrade of the existing two-lane asphalt roadway to a two-lane urban collector street section with an enclosed storm drainage system, according to the release. The project also includes the installation of a roundabout at the Waketon and Chinn Chapel intersection. The overall project is scheduled to be complete in the fall. Colonial Drive project nears com- pletion The Colonial Drive Phase 2 project in Flower Mound nears its end in June. The project consists of the reconstruction of Colonial from Whitney Lane to Homestead Drive. It includes sidewalk improvements, according to the town. Construc- tion started in June 2021. Paving work continues. Timeline: June 2022 Cost: $2.49 million Funding sources: dedicated sales tax, wastewater, stormwater
