EDUCATION

Pflugerville ISD operates with a vision to passionately serve the best interests of students and has done so since 1936.

Through its passionate service mantra, PfISD looks to provide an inspiring, engaging, and relevant education that empowers students to reach their full potential as productive members of a diverse global community. Diversity is a strength in Pflugerville ISD’s schools, where a majority of the students are minorities. The District prides itself on providing daily opportunities for students of all backgrounds to learn from each other and their teachers about life in a world where our differences make us unique and stronger when we work together. Receiving honors and special recognitions dates back a long way in PfISD, and continues today. In 2022, Superintendent Dr. Douglas Killian was named the Region 13 Superintendent of the Year and was a finalist for Texas Superintendent of the Year. The Pflugerville ISD School Board was named 2020 Regional Outstanding School Board of Trustees by Education Service Center Region 13 and the Texas Association of School Administrators. Way back from 1959-62, the District gained national attention when Pflugerville High School won 55 consecutive football games. The team was named national schoolboy champions, and their winning streak is honored on the original scoreboard that still stands on the field behind the Rock Gym. The Rock Gym also holds a special place in PfISD history and was named an official State of Texas historical landmark. But it is not just the past that Pflugerville ISD is proud of; the future is bright as well. As the city continues to grow along with the Greater Austin area, Pflugerville ISD’s needs continue to change. Once a district of farming communities, Pflugerville is now a

mostlysuburban district and one of the fastest - growing districts in the state, serving roughly 26,000 students. PfISD established a new strategic plan to grow with the population both in facilities and services offered as educational needs change. The District opened a new elementary school and middle school in 2021 - 2022with anotherelementary school, Hidden Lake Elementary, slated to open for the 2023 - 24 school year. Those schools were all funded through the 2018 Bond program approved by the community. As the community and economy grow, there is an ever - changing need in the workforce as well, and PfISD is preparing students for all types of careers. The Career and Technical Education Department provides career and postsecondary preparation for more than 8,000 students across the District, with programs available at all four high schools and seven middle schools. These programs offer students the opportunity to learn and prepare themselves for careers in many fields. Students can become certified EMTs at the District’s Fire Academy, learn what it takes to succeed in the culinary arts, earn an automotive tech certification, or gain experience in digital communications and video game design, just to name a few. In fact, two of PfISD’s high schools, Connally and Weiss, have focused in on CTE as P-TECH campuses. The PfISD Technology Early College High Schools are innovative open-enrollment schools that allow students an opportunity to receive an associate degree and/or industry-based certificate as well as a high school diploma.
