Ocials envision a public-private partnership like the one with Frisco, Frisco ISD and the Dallas Cowboys that resulted in the The Star in Frisco with an indoor stadium surrounded by retail, restaurants, a hotel and oce space. Ocials have said the project in Fort Worth has the poten- tial to create a $900 million develop- ment at the proposed 300-acre site, which would be anchored by a $175 million stadium. Discussions about the stadium began as early as November 2020. Cary Moon, Fort Worth District 4 City Council member, who has been helping bring the project to fruition, said he plans to get it done before he leaves oce in May. “I’ve got a few more months, and I still expect to bring a stadium—the

The company created the survey. The survey asks for a variety of opinions on soccer, the potential

stadium and USL teams, along with basic demographics such as gender, annual household income and age. “As a way to measure community support, CSL has developed a short survey that is being distributed mar- ket-wide, and a meaningful part of the survey process includes assess- ing business community support for the proposed stadium and teams,” the announcement states. contract the company has with General Motors, documents show. As part of the agreement with Fort Worth, MP Materials will invest $40 million in construction at the site by Dec. 31, 2023, and bring an additional $60 million in business personal property to the project. The company will also create at least 30 full-time jobs at the start with an average annual salary of more than $80,000 with the potential for more than 90 jobs at full operation, according to city documents. The tax abatement for real and business personal property at the site is capped at $2.76 million, per the agreement.

FORTWORTH City Council approved a seven-year tax abate- ment agreement with Las Vegas- based MP Materials Corp. for a 200,000-square-foot magnetics manufacturing facility. The measure was unanimously approved at the Jan. 25 council meeting. “To facilitate the project, the city of Fort Worth wishes to enter into a tax abatement agreement with the company based on a proportion of the incremental value of business personal property at [the] project site,” said Kelly Baggett, innovation coordinator with the city’s Economic Development Department. The project’s centerpiece is the manufacturing facility that will be constructed in the AllianceTexas development at 13840 Independence Parkway. When nished, this plant will produce enough magnets to power about 500,000 electric vehi- cles per year as part of a long-term

Slow ow attendees will actively hold poses for extended periods. “This is the hardest class on our schedule,” Maxwell said. Over the years, Maxwell has earned certications that allow her to train yoga teachers, including most of those she employs at her studio. DINING FEATURE Tommy Tamale Family serves award-winning tamales six days a week I n 2010, Steve Barker needed a job, so he started selling tamales out of his truck in Decatur. He said he went from business to business asking people to buy his tamales. They were selling. He said he soon realized he needed a business name. “I knew ‘Steve Tamale’ wouldn’t have the right ring … so I came up with Tommy Tamale,” Barker said. He eventually shifted to selling tamales from a booth at the Grapevine Farmers Market. Three days a week for ve years, customers could nd him there with his tamales. Along the way, he and his wife, JoAnn Barker, decided to open a small storefront in Grapevine that they referred to as The Shack. Hayden Adams and the Barkers’ other grandchil- dren helped out. “Grammy always said Poppy’s goal is that Tommy Tamale will become a household name, and I think it is there,” Adams said. There are now Tommy Tamale locations in Grapevine, Coppell and Keller. Barker said his wife, two granddaughters, two grandsons and a son-in-law all work at Tommy Tamale. Adams is the manager of the Keller location, which opened in November 2020. She said customers provide rave, albeit hushed, reviews of their tamales. “We get a lot of customers whose grandma makes them, and they say, ‘These are better than my grand- ma’s, but don’t tell her I said that,’” she said. “That’s a really satisfying thing.” Customers can order from a wide variety of tama- les as well as bowls, nachos, quesadillas and more items with tamales incorporated into them. In 2021, Tommy Tamale got top billing on Yelp’s top 25 spots for tamales in Texas. Barker said that honor means a lot because “the customer said that.” “Tamales are so labor-intensive—we pride ourselves on delivering the best tamale out there,” Barker said. BY KAREN CHANEY

1 The tamale plate comes with a choice of pork, beef, Hatch chili pork, chicken, habanero pork or black bean tamales (two for $7 or four for $9). It is served with rice and a choice of beans. 2 A top seller is the Tommy Bowl with one or two tamales ($7-$9). It comes with rice, queso, Texas beef chili cheese and pico de gallo. 3 Nachos ($8-$10) come with a choice of chicken, al pastor pork, steak or tamales. They are served with pico de gallo, sour cream, avocado salsa and arbol salsa. MUSTTRYMENU ITEMS:
