PISD’s teacher incentive allotment rises to $2.2M Over $2.2 million has been designated for teacher compensation for the teacher incentive allotment, or TIA, at Pearland ISD, according to a May 22 news release from the district. The overview The TIA was established by House Bill 3 in the 86th Texas Legislature in 2019 to provide a pathway for top-tier educators to earn six-gure salaries while helping districts across the state retain high-performing teachers. Last year, PISD generated about $1.55 million through the allotment program, the release notes. The number of high-performing teachers receiving these designations has also risen from over 164 teachers last year to nearly 230 in the current cycle, according to the release.

FISD updates district of innovation plan Friendswood ISD trustees approved an updated District of Innovation, or DOI, plan at its May 11 meeting, renewing the district’s ability to seek exemptions from certain state education requirements. DOI designations allow school districts to opt out from certain provisions of the Texas Education Code. What you need to know Under the updated plan, FISD will no longer seek exemptions related to teacher appraisals, group health benets for school employees and certain student-discipline requirements, including the designation of campus behavior coordinators. The changes align FISD with current law and existing practices, district documents note.

TIA Designations

Master teacher:

Generates between $12,000-$32,000 in additional funding and is awarded to the top 5% of teachers across the state

Exemplary teacher:

Generates between $6,000-$18,000 in additional funding and is awarded to the top 20% of teachers across the state

Recognized teacher:

Generates between $3,000-$9,000 in additional funding and is awarded to the top 33% of teachers across the state
