MAY ELECTION PREVIEW In addition to a statewide primary election in March and a general election in November, voters will also go to the polls for several local elections in May. Seats on Cedar Park City Council and Leander City Council will be on the May 7 ballot. Voters may also see a Cedar Park bond election and Leander propositions on their ballots. Other 2022 elections will be held March 1 for primary elections for the Nov. 8 uniform election date. If necessary, primary runos will be held May 24. Based on 2020 usage, 87 custom- ers would see an average increase of $50 or more per month, and 959 accounts would see an increase of $10 or more per month without a change in usage. Leander water customers who are outside city limits will see similar changes.
LEANDER Eective Jan. 1, Leander water customers are under a new water billing system based on howmuch water each residential customer uses. Leander City Coun- cil approved this change in October. The tiered-rate system aims to encourage water conservation and is based on a recommenda- tion from a 2021 city water rate study. While rates will increase for high water users, about 83%

WILLIAMSON COUNTY Emer- gency response ocials said the county is better prepared for any potential icy weather in 2022. Representatives from the county discussed at a Dec. 15 press confer- ence what they have done to improve their response to winter weather. Emergency Management Director Michael Shoe said the county is already communicating with utility providers and identifying dialysis centers and fueling stations. EMS Operations Division Com- mander Ed Tydings said the biggest challenge facing EMS was mobility, especially in the western hilly areas. EMS has invested in tire socks for each of the county’s 21 ambulances.
