Shavano Park leaders eye future road projects While bond-funded upgrades continue on several Shavano Park city streets, local leaders are planning more infrastructure fixes in other parts of the city. The background At the Feb. 26 City Council meeting, city officials and consultants said they are awaiting final approval on a $4 million federal grant agreement to support planned additional road upgrades, with $3 million going to De Zavala Road. Local officials said the remaining $1 million could be used to fix some older city streets. Dig deeper Tom Turk, principal of Freeland Turk Engineer- ing Group, told council about his company’s recent assessment of roads in neighborhoods west of Northwest Military Highway.

Loop 1604 expansion work moves forward Texas Department of Transportation officials on March 1 said work crews handling the $662 million expansion and improvement of Loop 1604 between US 281 and I-10 are expected to finish in October 2025. TxDOT’s Loop 1604 project, which ranges between Bandera Road and I-35, will add six total new lanes, new interchanges at Blanco Road and at I-10, and safety accommodations for pedestrians and cyclists along the freeway.

Based on Freeland’s survey, Turk recommended rebuilding two of the candidate roads and pro- vided preliminary cost estimates: • Post Oak Way from Lockhill Selma Road to Cinnamon Oak: $403,125 • Cinnamon Oak from Huebner Road to Post Oak Way: $627,083 Turk said his team will keep looking at potential repair methods and cost estimates for the next phase of envisioned road improvements.
