Candidates who filed for May 4

12 candidates apply for NEISD board election Filing for May 4 municipal and school board elections ended before spring break, and 12 resi- dents are seeking five North East ISD board seats. No contested races will happen in Hill Country Village, Hollywood Park or Shavano Park. What happened NEISD residents had until Feb. 16, the state’s application deadline for May 4 elections, to file for the District 1, 4, 5 and 6 trustee positions. The school district accepted applicants through March 4 for a special May 4 election to fill the remaining District 2 board seat term left vacant following trustee Terri Williams’ death. The District 2 term lapses in 2026; the other board seats carry a four-year term each. Dig deeper Officials with Hollywood Park and Hill Country

NEISD, NISD decline to hire paid chaplains Trustees with North East ISD and Northside ISD voted Feb. 12 and 27, respec- tively, to not change policies to employ school chaplains or accept volunteer chaplains on campuses. The background The Texas Legislature in 2023 passed Senate Bill 763, which allows public school boards to decide whether their district can have chaplains offer mental or behavioral health support to students. What they’re saying Several residents spoke at the NEISD and NISD board meetings, voicing concerns that changing policies could permit nonscreened individuals without proper training to provide guidance to a diverse population.
