In the process we create community for the artists, because they are with other artists every time they work.” Donaldson’s artistic mediums include painting, epoxy resins, wood and more. Burke is a potter; Macias draws and is a potter; and Phipps is a wood turner. “I’d like to say I planned the diversity when I formed this, ... [but] only three people came forward, and it was the right three people,” Donaldson said. “We’ve made every artists,” Burke said. “If patrons come in at the right time, they’ll see artists working.” Artists teach a variety of classes at the gallery, including painting, mixed media, fused glass and more. There are workshops for beginners on up. Prior to being added as a gallery artist, a four-member jury evaluates artwork based on quality, style and uniqueness. They also ensure art styles are not duplicated and that they live in North Texas. “We, as the partners, have curated the art that is being shown to the decision, hard or easy, together.” The new owners chose to add eight studio spaces and a classroom. “We feature local next level,” Donaldson said. “Our jury process is tough. We are very picky on who gets to come in.”

Displayed on walls, shelves and swaying from the ceiling are sculptures, ceramics, paintings, jew- elry and more in the 4,000-square- foot artists’ destination. LAST Art Gallery was founded in 2014 by Gail Delger. She incorpo- rated LAST into the business name to represent the business location, which is on Louisi- ana Street. In 2019, Delger was ready to retire, but Bradley Don- aldson, a local artist he made a deal with Delger to take over the lease and business name. Because he knew he could not run the business alone, he asked the 14 artists showing at LAST if any of them wanted to become his business partners. Three artists, Jennifer Burke, Minda Macias and JB Phipps, took him up on the offer, and they became a co-op gallery. As of January 2023, there are 47 local artists who are members of the co-op. As members, they pay to lease a spot to display their art, and they work two shifts a month. “McKinney has historically had a very strong arts community,” Burke said. “We create a space here for who displayed his work at the gallery, was not ready for LAST to disappear.
