NAME CHANGES 8 Following a recommendation from McKinney’s Parks, Recreation and Open Space Advisory Board, McKinney City Council approved the renaming of Old Settler’s Aquatic Center to the Gilda Garcia Garza Aquatic Center at its June 7 meeting. A lifelong resident of McKinney, Garza was elected to City Council in 2000 and re-elected twice, according to a city news release. She was instrumental in the development of a city aquatic facility in District 1, now named in her honor. Shortly after her death, Mayor George Fuller designated May 16, 2019, Council Woman Gilda Garcia Garza Day to rec- ognize her dedication to the community and public service.
