The store’s location on the Rich- ardson-Dallas border has helped endear it to both communities, Predtechenskis said. “This is a community space, so where we’re located is important, because [the store] is super accessi- ble,” she said. Having been around for over 40 years, The Popcorn Shack continues to be a go-to for community mem- bers, including multiple generations of families, Predtechenskis said. “I’ve seen people that used to come here as children that are now bringing their families,” she said.
“I really see popcorn as a trans- formative food,” Predtechenskis said. “You have the ability ... to create an atmosphere and a mood to participate in people’s lives. My favorite part of the store is every person that walks through that front door.” Among the popcorn avors are a mix of savory and sweet varieties ranging from chocolate and caramel to extra butter. All avors can be bought in tins and bags. In addition, the store sells gift baskets and decorative tins along with other goods, such as candy and specialty sodas. The Popcorn Shack rst opened in 1982 under the name Popcorn Papa. After being renamed 10 years ago, the business moved into its current location in 2016. Darla Predtechenskis became owner in 2020. She said owning the business has been a chance to
