Proposed future segments

Grand Parkway is set to see more expansions through Fort Bend and Brazoria counties. What happened? At a May 14 meeting, Fort Bend County com- missioners voted to give the Texas Department of Transportation primacy on Segments C1 and C2 , as well as the unbuilt portion of Segment D of the Grand Parkway project. The vote allows TxDOT to be the primary contact responsible for construction and operation on the 26-mile extension from south Sugar Land to Hwy. 288 near Rosharon, Precinct 3 Commissioner Andy Meyers said in a May 19 Facebook post. The expansion, which is a part of the proposed 180-mile highway that circles the Greater Houston area, comes at no cost to the county.

In their own words Interim County Judge Daniel Wong said the expansion is vital to the continued growth of the county, which is expected to reach over 1 million residents by 2030. “One of the most important services we can pro- vide for Fort Bend County families is our focus on improving the infrastructure of the county,” Wong said in a May 18 news release. “I look forward to continuing this work and making the journey from A to B as quick, enjoyable and safe as possible.” Looking ahead Fort Bend County will retain primacy of the seg- ment between Westpark Tollway and Hwy. 90A, and expects to begin construction on additional lanes later this year, Precinct 4 Commissioner Dexter L. McCoy said in a May 18 news release.
