CONROE ISD After receiving commu- nity feedback from Nov. 13-Jan. 7, the Conroe ISD board of trustees unani- mously approved the 2019-20 school calendar at its Jan. 15 meeting. CISD’s District-Level Planning and Decision-Making Committee accepted feedback from the commu- nity on the two proposed calendar drafts via the district’s website. CISD Deputy Superintendent Chris Hines said the district gathered roughly 2,200 comments on the proposed drafts during this time. The committee ultimately recommended trustees approve Calendar Draft 2 as the 2019-20 school calendar. The 2019-20 calendar features Aug. 14 as the first day of school for students, May 28 as the last day of school for students and two inclem- ent weather days. Students will attend school for 177 instructional days, and staff will work 187 days. The calendar also features a March 9-13 spring break. “Over the years we’ve [received] mixed feelings about different
Oak Ridge, Glen Loch and Hailey elementary schools are currently overcapacity, according to the district’s report. Oak Ridge has a current enrollment of 763 students with a recommended capacity of 725; Glen Loch has an enrollment of 692 students with a recommended capacity of 600; and Hailey has 761 students enrolled with a capacity of 680. Lamar, Ford and Houser elemen- tary schools as well as Vogel Inter- mediate have nearly exceeded their recommended capacities. Suchma Elementary School will accommodate 850 students when it opens, with a total recommended capacity of roughly 1,000 students, according to the district. Suchma is slated to open in August 2019 in the Oak Ridge High School feeder zone; the K-6 campus is located in the Harper’s Preserve community at 10261 Harper’s School Road, Conroe.
CONROE ISD Deputy Superinten- dent Chris Hines presented the Attendance Boundary Committee’s boundary recommendations for the upcoming David and Sheree Suchma Elementary School at the Jan. 15 board of trustees meeting. Hines said the committee focused on alleviating crowding at elemen- tary and intermediate schools in the Oak Ridge High School feeder zone. He said the committee was not able to address crowding at Ride Elementary with this rezoning pro- cess. However, Hines said the district will continue to look at the Oak Ridge feeder zone with the debut of a new demographic study that was released in December. Trustees unanimously approved Scenario 1.2, which was recom- mended by the ABC. Hines said the scenario will affect students at Oak Ridge, Houser, Glen Loch, Hailey, Lamar and Ford elementary schools as well as Vogel Intermediate School.
