In addition to shelter, counseling and legal guidance, the organization also runs a 24-hour crisis hotline. The MCWC does not allow former clients to volunteer or intern if they have received services fromMCWC within the last six months. On June 20, Yes to Youth broke ground on its new building for short- term housing for homeless youth. Sample activities: collecting food, clothing and other basic necessities for the shelter, provide dinner for youth in the shelter, clean or organize the main building, storage center, outdoor grounds or administrative offices. 105 W. VOLUNTEER I NFLUENCE The Corporation for National & Community Service, a federal agency, tracked volunteer engagement in its 2018 Volunteering in America report. According to the report, 30.3%of U.S. adults volunteered in 2018. Data for the report is collected every other September through the Current Population Survey, a monthly survey of about 60,000 households .

Volunteers care for horses in an outdoor facility performing farmwork and other activities. Individuals with computer, marketing and fundraising skills are also needed. The all-volunteer organization’s primary mission is to serve veterans, first responders and their families, but any volunteer help is welcome, founder and executive director Donna Stedman said. Foster families for dogs are always needed. Sample activities: participate in fundraisers, events, foster dogs 3 MONTGOMERY COUNTY ANIMAL SHELTER The shelter offers opportunities to assist with dog bathing and walking, cat handling, on- and off-site adoptions, fostering and laundry. Volunteers can also help with administrative tasks or serve as a vet staffer, surgery assistant or photographer’s assistant. Volunteers are needed to help trap, neuter and return animals, serve on the foster team, and help coordinate adoption and fundraising events.
