HAYS CISD One candidate has filed to run for each of three Hays CISD board of trustee seats as Feb. 14, the filing deadline. Both District 2 trustee Willie Tenorio and at-large trustee Vanessa Petrea will run for re-election and have no challengers. As previously reported, District 1 trustee Teresa Tobias announced in January that she would not run for re-election, but one candidate—Raul Vela Jr.—has filed for a place on the ballot. Vela is a member of the facilities and bond oversight committee; he was appointed by Tobias. Also on the May 2 ballot in Hays CISD is a $217.3 million bond that includes funding for new and expanded schools, a new central administration building, more school buses and stadium expansions, among other measures.
SANMARCOS CISD The San Marcos CISD board of trustees will have three seats open for election on the May 2 ballot. Only District 2 has been uncontested; Margie T. Villalpando will be running for re-election and has no challenger. For the District 1 contest, James Bryant Jr. will face incumbent Juan Miguel Arre- dondo. District 3 will also have two contestants, Mayra Mejia and Nicholas Scott Costilla. Lupe Costilla, who currently holds the seat for District 3, will not be running for re-election. The election will be May 2, and polls will close by 7 p.m. Early voting for the election will begin April 20 and ends April 28.
