FEATURED IMPACT NAME CHANGE Plano City Council unanimously approved name changes for two city-owned buildings and a pocket park during its Dec. 13 meeting. The recommendations put forward by City Manager Mark Israelson were made to honor the city’s history and long-time civil servants. “Earlier this year we received suggestions from citizens, employees and some council members regarding recognition of some coworkers,” Israelson said of the reason for the name changes.

The Parkway Service Center at 4120 W. Plano Parkway will be changed to the A Gerald P. Cosgrove Public Works Service Center to honor former Public Works Director Jerry Cosgrove. The former director died unexpectedly last year. “Jerry believed in public service because it not only helps individuals, but the community as a whole,” Jerry Cosgrove’s widow, Rita Cosgrove, said at the meeting. “Public service is not easy, but it is vital to the growth of a city. He would be extremely honored and humbled by what you’ve done. The family thanks each of you so much.”

Lastly, the council approved a name for a pocket park located at the southeast corner of 15th Street and K Avenue. It will be known as C Masonic Square to commemorate the Masons’ contributions to the city dating back to the 1860s. City Secretary Lisa Henderson and Assistant City Secretary Alice Snyder played a large part in naming the park to recognize the original location of the Plano Masonic Lodge, according to a city release. 972-941-7000. www.plano.gov
