ages, income levels, ethnici- ties,” Patterson said. “To me, affordable housing is the way to achieve that in our current affordability crisis.” Austin City Council Mem- ber Leslie Pool, the repre- sentative for District 7, said her district is already home to several affordable housing projects, and she is advocat- ing for more. “I eagerly join my council colleagues in advocating for more affordable housing all over the city, and of course, I am pleased and grateful that the destination for this affordability is often District 7,” she said in a statement. In District 7, private devel- opers are participating in density bonus programs. Through these programs, the city can offer developers looser restrictions, such as height, in exchange for more affordable housing. Pool said they are also exploring per- manent supportive housing hotel conversion projects as well as affordable housing using state tax credits. “We need more choices for our working families to help balance out the very high- priced market rate apart- ments being built,” Pool said. More in the pipeline Stratus Properties has received approval to build an apartment complex at 7113 Burnet Road, Austin—where Dallas Nightclub used to be— but construction has not yet started. The project, called the Saint George Apartments, will have six stories and a total of 317 units, Stratus

Wood Partners is developing the project, which will have five stories with 313 total units. It is expected to be completed in early 2023. Another multifamily hous- ing development under con- struction by OHT Partners is the Lenox Burnet, located at 6801 Burnet Road, Austin, where The Frisco Shop used to be. The 3.55-acre commu- nity will have 314 apartment units, 18 of which will be income-restricted affordable housing units reserved for res- idents making no more than 60% of Austin’s median fam- ily income, per OHT Partners representatives. This apart- ment complex is expected to be completed in late 2023. “We’re very excited about the product. We also think it’s a great area that’s getting bet- ter by the day,” OHT Partners developer Ben Browder said. Bringingmoremultifamily Residents in surrounding neighborhoods are seeing these changes firsthand. Anne-Charlotte Patterson has lived in the Crestview neighborhood, where the western part of the neigh- borhood runs along Burnet Road, since 2003.
