The Hive o ers buzzing community space with co ee, cocktails in Austin When Shelley Weiser opened The Hive in 2017, her goal was to create a family-friendly hub in South Austin. From a coworking space to a co ee shop and each version of the business in between, Weiser has always aimed to o er a comfortable atmosphere for everyone.
How it started Weiser was a self-employed graphic designer with two young kids in 2017 and needed a place to work. She saw a need for a public workspace with onsite childcare. The business is a full-service cafe and bar with an outdoor patio that has an on-site food truck and
What’s in a name The name ‘The Hive’ is a re ection of what Weiser hoped the business would be when she opened: a gathering hub for di erent people, simi- lar to a bee hive with bees ful lling various roles. She did not think it would grow into what it is today, but said seeing people return to The Hive is what keeps her going. “Seeing regulars everyday that have been here for seven years and seeing their kids grow up, when people I don’t know come up and they’re like, ‘Thank you for making this place,’ that really lls my bucket and makes me happy.”

Events at The Hive include open mic nights, karaoke, live music, trivia nights and more. The Hive’s co ee is locally sourced, and the onsite food truck, Austin Habibi, serves Mediterranean food.
