Welcome to Community Impact’s 2025 Home Edition. It’s no secret the Georgetown area is continuing to see new residential growth. But, did you know the city is no longer the fastest-growing city in the U.S.—a title it held in 2021 and 2022? In this edition, our team of reporters explore this trend and highlight four neighborhoods building in the area that together are bringing more than 2,600 homes. While we initially planned to write about the state of the local real estate market, we know the biggest story on everyone’s hearts and minds is the recent July 4 weekend ooding that resulted in immense loss of life and property throughout the Texas Hill Country. In Williamson County alone, three people died, numerous homes were destroyed, and trees and roads were damaged. We quickly pivoted our cover story to recap local recovery eorts and share information about where to get aid and volunteer. Please take care of yourself and the community as we recover from this disaster. I hope you enjoy this section of the paper focused on the home, and CI plans to bring additional coverage of the Georgetown-area real estate market to you soon.

Georgetown, which ranked as the fastest-growing city in the U.S. with a population of more than 50,000 in 2021 and 2022, lost its spot in 2023, as the U.S. Census Bureau began including smaller cities in the data. As a whole, Texas is home to seven of the 15 fastest-growing cities in the U.S. with a population of more than 20,000, data released May 15 shows. Locally, Hutto was the fastest-growing city in the area by percent population change, and ranked 13th overall in the nation with a year-over-year population increase of 9.4%. Zooming in Rapid growth in Hutto brings shopping, dining, entertainment and recreation opportunities, Director of Economic Development Cheney Gamboa said in a statement.

“Our growth is fueled by a strong sense of community, a lower cost of living compared to surrounding areas, and a lot of momentum from new businesses and families choosing to call Hutto home,” Gamboa said. Diving in deeper As of July 2024, Georgetown was ranked as the 71st fastest-growing city. “While no longer one of the top 10 fastest-growing cities in the U.S., Georgetown continues to attract thousands of new residents each year,” Georgetown Mayor Josh Schroeder said in a statement.
