School Health Advisory Council bylaws restored Conroe ISD trustees unanimously approved reinstating the 2023 bylaws of the district’s School Health Advisory Council as well as restoring previ- ously appointed members at the Nov. 19 meeting, overturning the previous board’s decision in May. The setup The SHAC was created to assist the district in ensuring that local community values and health issues are re‚ected in the district’s health and physical education instruction, according to information on the district website. “We as a board are not bound by these sugges- tions or advice, and we aren’t compelled or bound to accept anything they present as marching orders or directives to us,” board President Misty Odenweller said. In a unanimous vote, the board approved increasing SHAC membership from 21 to 47,

4 new trustees sworn in for CISD board The Conroe ISD board of trustees saw four new members sworn in at a Nov. 18 meet- ing. The new members replaced outgoing trustees Skeeter Hubert, Datren Williams, Stacey Chase and Theresa Wagaman. Filling board positions 4, 5, 6 and 7, respectively, are Nicole May, Lindsay Dawson, Melissa Semmler and Marianne Horton. accepting all of those who applied to the 2024-25 council according to the procedures in place since May. Among the bylaws changed was one which eliminated public comment at SHAC meetings, a change that will be rescinded with the restoration of the June 2023 bylaws. What’s next When the SHAC meets in January, all members are to attend, and the meeting will follow the restored 2023 bylaws, Odenweller said.
