She said one of her goals with Chill is to provide a welcoming environment where families can come hang out. “My favorite part about Chill is watching the community come together,” Boyd said. “Now we’ve been around long enough that college kids come back and say, ‘Oh my gosh, I grew up going here.’”

Savannah, one of Boyd’s daughters, has sporadically worked at the store since it opened and helped open Chill’s third location in December, which is in College Station, Boyd said. “We thought it would be a really fun family business, something that our kids could learn,” Boyd said. “It’s fun to provide a career oppor- tunity for one of my own kids.” Boyd said she was told by many people she would not be successful running a milkshake shop and that most of them last only a year. Since then, though, Chill was ranked the
