Montgomery County approves $14M for FM 149, FM 1486 expansions

“The Magnolia Relief Route [around the city of Magnolia] is the rst thing that’s going to be under construction, followed by the [FM] 149 extension by 2025. Total construction cost of all these projects is somewhere between $1.2 [billion] and $1.6 billion. That’s the program we’ve got put together with [the Texas Department of Transportation],” Precinct 2 Commissioner Charlie Riley said. Riley said the FM 149 project is expected to begin by 2024 and is entering the nal design phase. He said the FM 1486 expansion is entering the design and survey phase, which will include land surveying, right-of-way identication and other environmental studies.
The Montgomery County Toll Road Authority approved just over $14 million on Nov. 7 to move forward with design and engineering eorts on projects on FM 149 and FM 1486 in the Montgomery area. The two projects on the non-tolled roads are expected to improve mobility by providing additional routes in high-trac areas. • $10.29 million allocated for widening FM 1486 to four lanes with a raised median between FM 1774 and Jackson Road • $3.9 million allocated for extending FM 149 as a four-lane divided highway from Jackson Road to Hwy. 249 The FM 149 project also will include a new bridge at the Burlington Northern Santa Fe railroad.
