DECEMBER 2021 COMMERCIAL REAL ESTATE DATA The COVID19 pandemic drove industrial real estate trends in 2021. By the end of the year, oce rental rates were at the lowest point in years with demand down and vacancy exceeding 20%. At the same time, nearly 1.5 million square feet of industrial space was under construction as the demand for warehouses and distribution centers grows. Retail real estate held steady throughout 2021, ending with a 5.5% vacancy rate.
