Baylor Scott & White Health broke ground in January on a $220 million expansion to its Round Rock Medical Center. The expansion will bring addi- tional operating rooms and patient beds for general care, but Trenton Vaughan, BS&W vice president of patient care, said it is also introduc- ing space for several types of care the hospital did not previously o‹er. Among the new facilities is a cardiac catheterization lab, part of which opened earlier this year. Cardiac catheterization is a process for diagnosing the condition of a patient’s heart in a way that is less invasive, BS&W cardiologist Dr. Jose Condado Contreras said. “As our operation has continu- ously grown here in Round Rock, we were in need of getting better equipment [and] better technology,” Condado Contreras said. “[The

The Dell Children’s Medical Center North Campus o cially opened April 27. Contractors broke ground on the new facility in May 2021, and the four-story building contains over 187,000 square feet of space. Located at 9010 N. Lake Creek Parkway, Austin, the medical center is the only hospital in the county dedicated to the care of children, Williamson County Judge Bill Gravell said. The 36-bed hospital will o‹er emergency and trauma services, said Dr. Melissa Cossey, associate chief medical director of the Dell Children’s Medical Center North campus. The facility also has two operating rooms, endoscopy and procedure rooms, sleep labs, and shelled space for future growth.

cardiac catheterization lab] allows us to do better pictures with less radiation, so it’s safer for the patients and for us providers.” Another focus for the hospital as it expands is care for women and children. The project includes a neonatal intensive care unit as well as an upgraded labor and delivery department with new equipment. Expected to reach completion in 2026, the hospital will have rolling openings for new o‹erings as they come online.

The hospital also houses a Ronald McDonald suite on the third ›oor for parents whose children are receiving care. Space left for future growth can accommodate up to 36 additional beds on top of the existing 36 beds, hospital o cials said. At an event to celebrate the grand opening, state Rep. John Bucy III, DžAustin, said the new facility will help many people in Williamson County regardless of income or background.
