Waterloo Swimming Austin-based swim center plans for expansion C alifornia native Mike Varozza has been swimming both competitively and recreation- ally for most of his life.

Varozza said the most rewarding experiences have been watching kids grow up in the program and even- tually make it onto a college swim team. At the northwest location, dozens of college ags hang to commem- orate the students and instructors who have gone on to compete at the collegiate level. “I think we have about 2,000 kids now between lessons, tness and our swim team,” Varozza said. “For me, this is not work. This is just me getting up every day and having fun.” The indoor swim center also announced plans to open a new Round Rock location in spring 2024 with a teaching pool and a Junior Olympic-sized training pool, he said.
His swimming career began when he attended Texas A&M University on an athletic scholarship. Later, he went go on to compete for The University of Texas’ record-breaking Longhorn Aquatics team. In 2010, Varozza began teaching swimming lessons to kids at his local country club pool, and Waterloo Swimming was born. Each summer, his program grew until eventually, Varozza and his wife, Gwyn Varozza, opened the Waterloo Swimming facility in June 2016. With two facilities in Northwest and Central Austin, Waterloo Swim- ming provides year-round lessons, tness classes and competitive swimming for all ages. The northwest
