Political season is upon us and a national election is just around the corner. For investors, the important thing is to stay true to your financial game plan and don’t let outside noise, especially political noise, deter you from reaching your goals. Yes, policy is important, and politics can affect reality and perception, but in the long run we know that markets have gone higher during both Republican and Democratic administrations. In the future we will have economic slowdowns, world disruptions, wars, and political strife. That is likely never to change. But throughout history the markets have persevered, and every downturn has been followed by new all-time highs. As advisors our biggest challenge is to keep our clients focused on their long term goals and helping them block out the noise and influences that would disrupt their journey to financial security. Houston-area Texas Renaissance Festival celebrates 50 years

Having worked for the Texas Renaissance Festi- val since he was 16 years old, general manager Je Baldwin said after 50 years, the festival remains an immersive experience. “It’s a milestone; we’re not the oldest festival in the country, but we are by far the biggest and most prestigious one, attendance-wise, because in our 17 days of operation, we’ll have over half a million people [visit],” Baldwin said. How it started Founded by George Coulam in 1974, Baldwin said the Texas Renaissance Festival started as a traditional festival replicating the 16th-century European village with only dozens of on-site shops and fewer guests. In 1980, the festival recorded 222,263 guests, which has almost doubled to date. How it’s going Today, the Texas Renaissance Festival has shifted to become more family-oriented and has over 500,000 guests annually, Baldwin said. There are over 400 shops on-site and over 200 acres of camping facilities. An average of 50 weddings are held annually. Baldwin said this season people can expect new entertainment, new acts and new food options. In addition, to honor the 50th anniversary, the festival is welcoming back older acts. This season, the Texas Renaissance Festival will take place through Dec. 1.

Celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, the Texas Renaissance Festival returned Oct. 12.

The Woodlands Township looks to future of GE Betz property

How we got here

In June, the board requested that township sta begin crafting a request for proposals for the GE Betz property and the 11.6-acre tract of land it sits on.

The Woodlands Township board of directors on Sept. 19 discussed members’ concerns about the future of the township-owned GE Betz property, emphasizing the preliminary nature of the available options. During the Sept. 19 meeting, President and CEO Monique Sharp recapped the history of the property located at 9669 Grogans Mill Road. GE Betz was previously a water and wastewater treatment solutions company that vacated the property in 2018. “No decision has been made regarding this property and action, the only action was requesting staŠ to develop a [request for proposals] slash marketing plan for the best property,” board Chair Ann Snyder said. Several studies have been performed regarding possible uses for the space following the

In their words

Sharp said the request for proposals would not be completed until October, at which point it would be presented to the board for review. However, the board is under no obligation to take action or begin work on the property. Board members also agreed there were no plans to outright sell the property.

through this thoroughly,” board member Cindy Heiser said. “We need a mobility study done ... so that we know what the trac ow would look like when we have an additional 5,000 people coming to The Woodlands on the night of a performance or something like that. ... I feel like all the homework hasn’t been done quite yet.”

One of the main uses considered for the property is the construction of a new performing arts center, according to previous township discussion. However, Sharp said the ocial use of the property will be based on the feasibility and mobility studies done. “I want to make sure that we really think

County approves $3M for debris removal In a 3-2 vote, Montgomery County commissioners on Sept. 24 authorized an additional $3 million for debris pickup in The Woodlands area and River Plantation community to allow contractor CrowderGulf to make a ‚nal pass for storm debris. The breakdown Jason Millsaps, executive director of Mont- gomery County O†ce of Homeland Security and Emergency Management, said the additional funds will go toward picking up vegetative debris from Hurricane Beryl along the county right of way in The Woodlands Township and for roughly 300 residents who did not originally register for pickup in the eastern portion of the county. “In the last four weeks, I’ve received dozens of calls from The Woodlands Township as well as The Woodlands residents,” Millsaps said. “This [fund- ing] would still allow us to pick up the identi‚ed debris in the township.” Precinct 3 Commissioner James Noack disagreed with the inclusion of The Woodlands in the

The Woodlands Township board of directors voted on Sept. 25 to approve a contract with First Class Transportation to continue operating The Woodlands Express bus service for the next ‚ve years. What you need to know The ‚ve-year contract was approved for the operations of The Woodlands Express, the township’s commuter bus service into Houston, following a bid process. First Class Transportation has been the main operator of the township’s bus service since 2015, and it runs routes to and from: • Downtown Houston • The Texas Medical Center • Greenway Plaza • The Energy Corridor The township previously allocated $5.8 million in the ‚scal year 2025 budget for the commuter bus service.

county’s new debris removal authorization, stating he had established an agreement with the township in order to pick up debris in the right of way. “We are very hopeful that the action being considered today will provide the court the funds and authorization it needs to clearly direct debris removal throughout the county,” said Ann Snyder, chair of The Woodlands board of directors. What’s next? The authorization increases the total cost of debris pickup to not exceed $27 million. However, Millsaps said he does not expect the county to use the entirety of the additional $3 million due to the debris collections now being targeted to speci‚c areas. Railroad crossing to close at Robinson Road Oak Ridge North City Council o†cials approved an agreement with the Union Paci‚c Railroad on Sept. 23 to close the existing railroad crossing at the intersection of Robinson Road and Hanna Road as part of the Robinson Road realignment project. Why it matters The realignment project began construction in February, allowing the city to begin negotiations with the UPRR to allow for the closure and recon- struction of the railroad crossing. “This will be the next step in the railroad process,” Public Works Director James Corn said. “This will make this an operation agreement that will lay out the guidelines of the annual fees, the cost of construction, etc.” The details Under the agreement, the UPRR will deconstruct the current railroad crossing and reestablish it once the realignment project nears completion. What are the main challenges the district is now facing and how would you plan to address them?

Challenges: growth of our district, lack of state funding and school board members’ overreach. We continuously plan for our consistent growth and maintain an exemplary education for all students. Appeal to our legislatures of what is at risk in not funding our public schools. Continuously combat political and personal agendas.

The main challenges the district faces are teacher retention, balancing the budget and improving learning outcomes. I would address these challenges by strengthening our discipline policy, protecting class sizes and all positions that work directly with students, and placing the focus back on reading, writing and arithmetic.

2024-2025 $10 million overspent; balance the budget; working through the dicult conversations to make it happen. Give parents peace of mind with secure buildings and appropriate levels of security ocers for all schools. Finally, transparency in our administration about its scal reporting and clear policy guidelines to safeguard future generations.
