FROM NICOLE: Education is on everyone’s mind in August as the opening day for schools in the area draws closer. The upcoming bond referendum expected to be on the ballot this November may also be on your mind. In our annual Education Edition, we break down the elements in the bond and provide background on the various proposals, from new buildings to technology devices and how much each is projected to cost. Follow us online and subscribe to our newsletter to see updates as election time approaches. Nicole Preston, GENERAL MANAGER

FROM VANESSA: You can’t tell by looking at it, but The Woodlands Waterway is under new ownership this summer. The Woodlands Township is now responsible for maintenance of the 1.8-mile waterway, and through transactions completed in July, it is also taking on more than 230 acres in new land in the township. The largest piece is 208 acres in size and could provide a host of new recreation opportunities. See Page 23 for more information about these changes. Vanessa Holt, SENIOR EDITOR

MONTHLY COMMENTARY

Stocks continue to climb a wall of worry. Pundits have been predicting a recession for more than a year now while the Federal Reserve has been engaged in their battle with inflation. GDP is humming along at over 2%, unemployment is under 4% and inflation has been beaten down to the 3%-4% range. The crush in corporate earnings has failed to materialize and the aforementioned stocks continue to grind higher. So far, 2023 has turned out to be rather good for both Wall Street and Main Street. I know negativity sells, but it’s ok to acknowledge when things are pretty good. And things are pretty good at the moment.
