HIGHLIGHTS SHENANDOAH The city of Shenandoah on Aug. 9 approved a new interlocal agreement with Montgomery County to begin work on a project to extend David Memorial Drive to Hwy. 242 after the city of Conroe postponed its involvement due to budget shortfalls. THE WOODLANDS An election was called for Nov. 7 with three two-year positions available on the board of directors. Positions 5, 6 and 7 are open. The filing period ends 5 p.m. Aug. 22.

the pool. The city has three parks that are maintained by the public works department, including the Main City Park, the Toddler Park and Holly Hill Park. The proposed cost is $46,700 to maintain park beautification. The water and sewer fund main- tains the sanitary sewer collection system, ground water wells, the wastewater treatment plant and the portable water distribution system. The proposed cost is $3.02 million. This will continue to replace aging meters for most accurate usage reads, and maintain and enhance the city’s superior water system. FUNDING FORECAST Among the items under discussion in Shenandoah’s FY 2023-24 are funds for water, sewer and public works. SHENANDOAH Officials continued budget discussions during the July 26 Shenandoah City Council meeting covering public works, a pool, parks, and the water and sewer fund. Finance Director Lisa Wasner said during the meeting that certain departments do not include major changes but focus on maintaining quality and service. The details: The Shenandoah Public Works Department maintains drain- age, streets, infrastructure, parks, rights of way, meter reads, the Trash Bash service and Arbor Day. The proposed cost for the department is $1.08 million. This will allow the city to maintain roads and rights of way, promote beautification and improve the Lighting of the Angels with the Civic Club. The Mary Pat Case Pool is bud- geted for $154,790 to increase pool operator and assistant operator hours, and maintain services at

Road projects to be considered for funding by the Texas Department of Transportation in the next 10 years include work on I-45. MONTGOMERY COUNTY A list of 16 major road projects in Montgomery County was approved by Commissioners Court on Aug. 1 in a call for projects by the Houston-Galveston Area Council to begin in the next 10 years. The H-GAC provided a list of 16 major road projects to be fully funded by the Texas Department of Transportation as they are developed. After approving the list, the H-GAC will submit the project to TxDOT for funding with a goal of having all 16 projects underway within 10 years. A number of the projects in the six- to 10-year time frame are tied to major funding amounts. In The Woodlands area, this includes $200 million for I-45 reconstruction and widening from Hwy. 242 to Loop 336, and $70 million for reconstruction and widening from Hwy. 242 to the Grand Parkway. It also includes $67.8 million for FM 1488 widening.

THE WOODLANDS Brooke- stone Construction was brought on as the construction manager for the new fire station in The Woodlands and renovations to the Emergency Training Center on July 26. The Woodlands Township is preparing to construct a new Fire Station No. 5 near the Sterling Ridge Park and Ride at 8001 McBeth Way, as well as perform some upgrades to the current Emergency Training Center on I-45. After approving $13 million for construction work on both projects in January, the township worked with Martinez Architects to provide design concepts for both projects, according to infor- mation at the July 26 meeting.

OAK RIDGE NORTH A $755,078 contract with Quiddity Engineering was approved by Oak Ridge North on July 24 to provide construction management services as an $8 million project to align Robinson Road at Hanna Road prepares to go into the construction phase. The project will align the east and west sides of Robinson across Hanna. What’s happening: RPS Infrastructure will provide design and initial utility relocation services for the Robinson Road realignment project, which will begin in the fall and take about 18 months to complete, officials said. The approved contract will allow Quiddity to begin oversee- ing the bidding, inspection and oversight process for the align- ment project over the next year and a half, city officials said. What they’re saying: “This will get us through when RPS ends and run it through the extent of the project for on-site inspec- tions, contract management, submittal management, every- thing we’ll need for that project to make sure it’s done right,” said James Corn, director of public works for Oak Ridge North.
