The sugaring mixture, however, is applied to the skin at room temperature so it does not burn. Sugaring is a hand technique, Perrotta said, meaning that the hand is the tool used. It typically lasts about three weeks. While working in a salon, Maggie Perrotta was introduced to sugaring, an alternative to waxing, and it changed her life. Perrotta was working to become a cosmetology instructor, but decided to focus on sugaring instead. She opened The Sweetest Thing in May 2019.
