Township seeks bids for cell tower

If the township decides to build a cell tower on public park property, it would require a public hearing, according to state law. The township put out a request for proposals from federally licensed wireless telecommunications companies on Dec. 15, which includes details about locations, design elements, cellular network improvements and the public hearing process. The deadline for proposals is Feb. 6. After the request for proposal process is completed, the township will receive the recommendations from the sta and could award the bid Feb. 19, according to the meeting documents. The initial term of the lease would be for 10 years, with renewal terms of ve years each, according to the RFP.

The Woodlands Township board of directors is accepting proposals to build a new cellular tower on township property. The board approved starting the public bid process Dec. 4. Previously, in March, the board directed sta to look into options to bring an additional tower to The Woodlands to improve coverage, according to previous reporting by Community Impact . Since then, the township has been working with township developer Howard Hughes and cell phone companies, township IT Director William Pham said at the Dec. 4 meeting. Howard Hughes agreed to consider waiving restrictions against commercial towers on township property, he said. Ocials said the tower would conform with aesthetics and other development standards.
