Alvin Community College changes name Alvin Community College has officially been renamed to Alvin College following the board of regents’ approval in the fall. The history Originally named Alvin Junior College in 1948, regents renamed the college to Alvin Community College in 1975. The new name is a part of a marketing initiative to target growth, according to a Nov. 4 news release from the college.
