5-story apartment project rising o S. Lamar The longtime former home of Strait Music in South Austin was torn down to clear the way for a new multistory residential project. What’s happening Austin-based CSW Development plans to bring more than 300 apartments to the old 3.8-acre Strait Music site at 2428 W. Ben White Blvd., Austin. The company is now listing the property as 4215 South Lamar Blvd. The ve-story project is billed by CSW as a high- end multifamily complex, with amenities like a pool, clubroom, tness center, co-working space and coee bar in addition to its 240,000 square feet of residential space. The property is situated next to the Lakehills Plaza shopping center o Hwy. 290. Strait Music continues to do business from its new location at 3201 Bee Caves Road, Ste. 140, Austin.
Hwy. 290 residential redevelopment OK’d The redevelopment of a commercial site o Hwy. 290 with 305 apartments got the go-ahead from City Council in February. What happened While the property at 5725 W. Hwy. 290, Austin, was rezoned last year, further city approval was needed to add housing in an environmentally sensitive area. Ocials voted for those plans, with asks for site improvements proposed by council member Paige Ellis based on recommendations from the Environmental Commission such as: • Reducing impervious cover • Building electric vehicle charging stations • Planting, trees and native plants • Expanding water treatment and detention systems

Fatal and serious injury crashes have decreased by 22% at major intersections in Austin where safety improvements have been made, according to a report released in June by the city’s Vision Zero program. One way the city has tackled this goal is by making improvements to major intersections throughout the city. Major intersections have a higher likelihood of severe injury or death because of the many conict points, such as high speeds and high volume, the city’s Interim Assistant Director Lewis Le explained to Community Impact.
