for increased enrollment in the future, Hines said. Although the finalized bound- ary plan is meant to reduce crowding at many of the affected schools, district officials said the issue will not be completely fixed with the addition of Suchma. CISD’s Attendance Boundary Committee suggested in addition to adopting its plan for Suchma’s boundaries, the district also use the latest demographic data to re-evaluate attendance borders in the I-45 and FM 1488 area, as Ride and Glen Loch elementary schools remain slightly over- crowded. However, enrollment is antici- pated to level off in other schools in the southern portion of the district. Growth is expected to slow elsewhere at the crowded or near-capacity Oak Ridge, Houser and Ford elementary schools and Vogel Intermediate School. ADDITIONAL REPORTING BY KELLY SCHAFLER

affected by the addition of Suchma include Ford, Hailey, Houser, Glen Loch, Lamar and Oak Ridge elementary schools. San Jacinto Elementary Zone 33F, east of the West Fork San Jacinto River, is also included in the east- ern portion of the Suchma zone. “We feel like we’re making a significant commitment for a period of time,” CISD Deputy Superintendent Chris Hines said at the January board meeting. “We try not to move people very often.” The final boundary design, Scenario 1.2, was finalized by the CISD Attendance Boundary Com- mittee after months of research and input from the community. The committee reported it chose this version of the boundaries to affect the least number of families and to alleviate concerns at other area schools. The boundaries also give Suchma a large area to start with while still leaving room

ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS:

Elementary School will open this August for the 2019-20 academic year, providing relief for over- crowding at several elementary schools within the Oak Ridge trustees unanimously approved boundary recommendations for the school at its Jan. 15 meeting. The new school, located at 10261 Harper’s School Road, Conroe, will have an enrollment of around 850 students in kinder- garten through sixth grade for its inaugural year, with a capacity for around 1,000 students. The newly established bound- aries of Suchma will affect most students in attendance zones near the new school and also shift around 300 students in four other attendance zones in the southern portion of CISD to new schools to ease overcrowding.
