Board approves about $9.5M in stas incentives

The Round Rock ISD board approved several measures aimed at boosting teacher retention and hiring. Here are the incentives employees will receive.

NEW INCENTIVES

ROUND ROCK ISD On Oct. 20, the board of trustees approved one- time recruitment and incentives to compensation for some employees. Stipends were approved for special education teachers and educational assistants as well as nonteachers and college students completing their practicum in RRISD. The district also approved a stipend for teachers who have completed the reading acad- emy, a professional learning program mandated under House Bill 3. These incentives are in addition to the remaining $500 bonuses previously approved by the board in December 2021. Employees who fall into multiple categories would receive each specied amount, Chief Human Resources Ocer Eddie Curran said. “We are heavily recruiting right now for next year,” he said. “The longer we

HIGHLIGHTS ROUND ROCK ISD The district completed some upgrades and additions to McNeil High School in October, including an all-new Career and Technical Education workshop, health sciences wing and black box theater. ROUND ROCK ISD The board approved $13.74 million in funding Oct. 20 for the Brush Creek Elementary School expansion. The project will be funded through the 2018 bond and includes the new addition for 16 classrooms, expansion of the existing cafeteria and gym, and improvements to the existing campus. District celebrates opening of newly built middle school

ROUND ROCK ISD School district leaders and ocials celebrated the opening of the new C.D. Fulkes Middle School with a ribbon-cutting event Oct. 6. The facility opened at the start of the 2022-23 school year and was built on the former football eld, allowing students to attend school while construction was under- way, according to a district release. Funding for the new school came from the 2018 bond. The $49.5 million state-of-the-art facility now features a modern design with two gymnasiums, a 400-meter track surrounding a new articial turf eld and a new bus lane.

Over the summer, the district razed the former campus. The historic auditorium from the former campus will be preserved as part of plans for future renovations and improvements, according to the district.
