Airport sees year- over-year growth in passengers

During the Nov. 7 City Council special session, San Antonio Assistant City Manager Jeff Coyle gave a brief presentation on the continued growth of San Antonio International Airport. The takeaway Coyle’s presentation touched upon three aspects that demonstrate SA Airport’s growth. These include the number of direct flights to and from San Antonio, number of flights to Mexico and year-over-year capacity changes. According to Coyle, SA Airport currently has up to 45 nonstop flights, including eight interna- tional flights. New nonstop services include: • Delta Airlines nonstop flight to Boston • Volaris Airlines nonstop flight to Monterrey • Viva Airlines nonstop flight to Guadalajara • American Airlines nonstop flight to Reagan National Airport to Washington D.C. SA Airport also has more scheduled seats to 1st Loop 1604 flyover ramp at I-10 open The Texas Department of Transportation celebrated the opening of the first flyover ramp of the Loop 1604 North Expansion proj- ect with a ribbon-cutting ceremony Dec. 3. The overview Texas Transportation Commission Chair J. Bruce Bugg Jr. led the ribbon-cutting cer- emony and was joined by Sen. José Menén- dez, Bexar County Judge Peter Sakai and others. The flyover ramp will provide a new connection for drivers heading eastbound on Loop 1604 toward westbound I-10. “This milestone signifies major progress as part of our work on the Texas Clear Lanes initiative to improve mobility and tackle congestion on the most congested corridors in the state,” Bugg said.

New parking, online reservations available at airport

At the Airport Advisory Commission meeting Nov. 18, Assistant Director of Aviation Ryan Rocha gave a presentation detailing new features designed to ease travel ahead of the holiday season. The discussion The presentation detailed multiple aspects of the updated parking facilities at the San Antonio International Airport, including total parking capacity, a new shuttle fleet, a redesigned website and a parking reservation booking page. According to the SA Airport website, travelers leaving San Antonio can choose from a variety of parking options, such as two economy parking lots, long term parking and valet parking. Residents needing to park for a short period of time can use the short term parking lot and the cell phone lot. Residents can also reserve a parking space ahead of time by visiting SA Airport’s website. The airport has also introduced touchless parking by scanning a QR code located in the parking lots.
