on Nichols Sawmill Road, and we’ll be done.” Riley also said some of Precinct 2’s $5 million in American Rescue Plan Act funds commissioners designated for stormwater projects March 28 could be used. “I didn’t have this $5 million when I started widening Nichols Sawmill Road, and there’s parts of Nichols Sawmill Road that, when we get a 10- or 15-inch rain—right now will go underwater,” Riley said. “So I’m looking at trying to see if I can design and engineer those spots on Nichols Sawmill Road [so] I can keep them from going underwater.”
The widening of Nichols Sawmill Road from Commerce Street to Old Hockley Road, which began in early March, is expected to be completed this summer, Precinct 2 Commis- sioner Charlie Riley said. “We’re in the process of stabiliz- ing the new outside lanes,” Riley said March 30. “So there’s prob- ably another 90 days, and it’ll be complete.” The county nished its widening
of Nichols Sawmill Road from Grand Pines Road to Old Hockley Road last summer, Community Impact previ- ously reported. This project, using funds from the county’s 2015 road bond, is antic- ipated to cost around $1.5 million, Riley said. “I only have about $1.6 [million] or [$1.7 million] left,” Riley said about Precinct 2’s road bond funds. “So we’re xing to use every bit of ours

The Texas Department of Transportation is gathering public com- ments through May 5 on proposed improvements to the Grand Parkway from Hwy. 249 to Holz- warth Road. The rst segment from Hwy. 249 to Kuykendahl Road
proposes widening the Grand Parkway from four lanes to six lanes and replacing the grassy median with a concrete trac barrier. The second segment would provide similar improvements to the Grand Parkway between
Kuykendahl and Holz- warth roads. The widening projects are tentatively scheduled to begin in early 2024 and 2025, respectively, and take three years. Project details are available at www.txdot.gov/projects/ hearings-meetings.html.
