REE Automotive pulls out of HQ project Nearly three years after the city of Pugerville inked an economic development agreement with REE Automotive to locate its headquarters at One Thirty Business Park, the automaker has decided not to move forward. What happened? Veronica Ramirez, marketing communica- tions manager for the Pugerville Community Development Corporation, told Community Impact via email Jan. 30 that following a site visit in 2024, the company decided not to move forward with the project. Ramirez said the company cited a change in its business model for the decision. REE Automotive is an Israel-based com- mercial electric vehicle technology company that manufactures electric vehicle platforms with interchangeable cargo modules.

Samsung awarded $4B in funds to further Central Texas investments Samsung will utilize additional federal funding after the Biden-Harris administration announced this winter the U.S. Department of Commerce awarded the tech giant up to $4.74 billion to fur- ther the company’s investments in Central Texas. The funds are allocated through the Creating Helpful Incentives to Produce Semiconductors and Science Act, following a preliminary agreement signed in April 2024. Funds will be released to Samsung based on project milestones. Two-minute impact The funds, from the CHIPS Incentives Program’s Funding Opportunity for Commercial Fabrication facilities, will support the company’s e–orts to invest more than $37 billion over the coming years to turn Central Texas into a comprehensive

The Pugerville Community Development Corporation launched a digital support center Jan. 15 to help local entrepreneurs grow their small businesses. The overview The Startup Support Center is a free digital platform that will provide tools and training for product development, services and technology. It is designed specically for small-business owners in Pugerville—both long established and those just starting out. Users can expect curriculum for business planning, advanced marketing tools and automation systems, and support from local agencies and organizations. Those inter- ested can sign up on the PCDC website.

Verdot Capital applied for $4.3 million in tax increment reimbursement zone funding for a residential and mixed-use development located along SH 130, north of East Pugerville Parkway and south of Copper Mine Drive. In its application for the North Pointe East Development, the developer included plans for a pickleball facility, assisted senior living, multifam- ily housing, retail, green space, connectivity for roads and a waterline extension. The application failed in a 5-2 City Council vote Jan. 14, after city sta– recommended denial, due to the project not “exceeding minimum develop- ment requirements.”

Funds will also support an expansion to the existing facility in Austin. Dig deeper The funds are expected to support about 12,000 new construction jobs and 3,500 new manufactur- ing jobs in the next ve years, the release states.

The background City Council established tax increment reim- bursement zone one in 2010 to attract develop- ment to about 399 acres in east Pugerville. The zone now also encompasses 67 acres in the west side of the city, as well as downtown Pugerville. Developers can apply to use TIRZ funding—set aside from taxes earned from new improvements— to help build out infrastructure.
