Improvements to multiple city amenities receive cash funding BY BROOKE SJOBERG

CASH FUNDING FOR PARKS AND SAFETY On July 13, Round Rock officials voted to fund planning, and in some cases construction, on several projects, including some approved by voters through a $274 million bond in the May election.

• Improvement to parks system infrastructure: $2 million • Remodel and expansion of the Clay Madsen Recreation Center: $3.5 million • Downtown park: $5 million • Expansion of the Rock’N River Water Park: $6.5 million • Improvements to Harrell Parkway*: $10 million • Build-out of Old Settlers Park: $10 million • Expansion of the Round Rock Sports Center: $11 million Parks & recreation: $48 million • Phase 2 of the Public Safety Training Center: $6.3 million • Construction of the new Fire Station No. 1: $10 million • Construction of Fire stations No. 10 and No. 11: $10 million Public safety: $26.3 million

What happened: Round Rock voters passed the largest bond in the city’s history in May. The $274 million bond package is split between two propositions. Proposition A desig- nates $230 million to improve city amenities such as parks, facilities and trails, and Proposition B designates $44 million to the city’s Public Safety Training Center and two new fire stations. Most of the projects listed within the first round of funding approved in July come from the May bond. What’s next: The projects will be cash funded, and the city will be reimbursed once the bonds for them are issued. ROUND ROCK Several multimillion-dollar projects to improve the city of Round Rock received cash funding in July. The projects range from some public safety improvements and the expansion of city facilities to the creation of a new downtown park with funds planned to be spent over the next 12-24 months, city staff said. City Council voted July 13 to allocate $84.3 million for projects included in the May 2023 bond as well as additional projects not funded with voter-approved money. Drilling down: Some key projects council approved include $11 million for an expansion of the Round Rock Sports Center, $20 million for the construction of three fire stations and $10 million for improvements to Harrell Parkway.

city staff said. Timelines for funding approval and construction for other projects approved through the bond have not yet been announced.
