July 4 celebrations include parade, fireworks
Community updates
Events scheduled in The Woodlands area for the Fourth of July included the South Montgomery County Fourth of July parade held at Market Street and fireworks displays in area parks. 1 The annual South Montgomery County Fourth of July Parade was held July 3 at Market Street, which included a 1.3-mile parade route and more than 100 floats as well as several costumed performers. 2 Fourth of July fireworks were held at The Woodlands Township parks July 4 at dusk, along with live music, food and activities for children and families. 3 Among participants in the parade were local officials such as Ann Snyder, The Woodlands Township board of directors member and secretary. The parade route extended along Grogan’s Mill Road, Lake Robbins Drive and Lake Woodlands Drive. 4 Some attendees showed up to the parade with pets. Spectators gathered to watch area high school bands perform, including College Park and The Woodlands high schools.
Scouts earned badges at a local performing arts venue, and an area nonprofit received a $50,000 donation this summer. 1 CASA Child Advocates of Montgomery County was one of 10 nonprofit organizations to be a beneficiary of the Waste Connections Inc. annual Golf Classic for Kids and VIP Poker Experience. CASA was awarded $50,000 during a check presentation at Waste Connections’ headquarters in The Woodlands on July 2. 2 On June 7, Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts attended Scout Day at The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion to earn music merit badges on the day of a performance of the Texas Music Festival Orchestra. 3 State Rep. Steve Toth, R-Conroe, (left) and Chief of Staff Trent Williams (right) attended the July 18 meeting of The Woodlands Township board of directors to recognize the naming of a section of I-45 in The Woodlands after community founder George P. Mitchell.
