BEFORE SCHOOL BEGINS ...
Validate your child’s feelings by acknowledging that starting school can seem hard but emphasize that it can also be exciting and fun. Offer a prize or reward for attending school on the first day. Visit the school to spend time on the playground or inside the classroom if possible.
Start back-to-school routines, such as going to bed early, getting up early and planning clothes for the next day. Make sure your child gets at least nine hours of sleep each night and eats healthy meals. Reduce screen time and build activity into each day for improved mental health. Arrange play dates. Research shows having friendly faces in the classroom can improve children’s academic and emo- tional adjustment.
