Pearland wins $290K GCAA award

The background

This year marked the 55th year of the GCAA awards, with 261 projects totaling $47 million in funding being completed to date, according to the release. TxDOT has provided funding for projects since 1985.

The city of Pearland will receive $290,000 after being recognized by nonprot Keep Texas Beautiful as a “clean and beautiful community.” Keep Texas Beautiful recognized 10 communities across Texas as part of the 2024 Governor’s Community Achievement Awards, or GCAA, and named Pearland among the group, according to an April 2 news release from nonprot Keep Pearland Beautiful. Specically, Pearland won the award for Category 9, which is for a population between 90,001 to 180,000, according to the Keep Texas Beautiful website. The award will go toward a landscaping project to be done in partnership with the Texas Department of Transportation along a state-maintained road. The city will also receive a plaque, according to the release.
