2024 report shows positive job trends

Most of the top 20 employers in the region were the same as in 2023. However, the company at position No. 21 in 2023, Shell Energy Solutions, was no longer on the list. Since 2020, the sector with the most employ- ment in The Woodlands area has been health care, representing four of the top ve employer spots on the EDP list this year, which were: • Conroe ISD • Memorial Hermann The Woodlands Medical Center • Houston Methodist The Woodlands Hospital

The total number of employees, 40,036, is 216 higher than the 2023 total. The report de†nes major nonretail businesses as those which have 100 or more local employees. The Woodlands area has seen the number of major nonretail companies drop from 86 to 85, with a loss of about 400 jobs from one company, Staley said.

Employment in The Woodlands area has seen some growth since 2023, and the region now has a total of more than 40,000 jobs among major nonretail employers, Gil Staley, CEO of The Woodlands Area Economic Development Partnership, said at The Woodlands Area Chamber of Commerce’s 2024 Economic Outlook Conference on Feb. 16.

Staley said the focus on education and health care re‰ects the region’s growing population. “Any time you have a surge in population that is steadily growing ... you’re going to see these two sectors perform well,” Staley said.
