School launches new mental health software The Woodlands Christian Academy is serving as a pilot campus for Mark Mayeld’s Stop Light Alert for Mental and Emotional Wellbeing, a new software program that helps screen students for mental health risks. The big picture Mayeld, a former pastor and current assis- tant professor at Colorado Christian University, launched the digital version of the Stop Light Alert System in early January to help charter and Chris- tian schools serve students’ mental and emotional needs. Through the system: • A teacher sends a color-coded text. • If a text is yellow or red, someone will be alerted immediately. • A member of a special school committee will meet with the student.
Conroe ISD begins work on 2 new schools Conroe ISD trustees approved the guar- anteed maximum price for two new schools related to the district’s 2023 bond during a Feb. 20 board meeting. The projects are for a new elementary school in The Woodlands High school feeder and a new elementary school on Hwy. 242 to relieve San Jacinto and Suchma elementary schools. Both projects were slated to begin March 1 and conclude on May 30, 2025.
Tesla to complete new sales location in 2024 Tesla is opening a sales, service and delivery location at 9420 College Park Drive, The Woodlands. It replaces the former grocery store, Randalls, that closed in 2018. The 63,861-square-foot space is undergoing a $3.5 million renovation, according to previous Commu- nity Impact reporting. It is expected to be complete by the end of 2024, Tesla ocials said Feb. 22. Work on the project began last July. The background Another Randalls in The Woodlands, which closed in 2020 in the Grogans Mill Shopping Cen- ter, was deed restricted to remain a grocery store until a land swap deal for a community center was reached between Montgomery County and developer Howard Hughes. As the College Park Drive location was not deed restricted, it could be used for a variety of purposes.
Bear Branch Park to see $1.5M upgrade Renovations to Bear Branch Park are under- way, with $1.5 million allocated from The Woodlands Township’s Parks and Recreation Needs Assessment funds. Ocials said the proposal for the 30-acre park includes a restroom renovation and construction of a playground as well as a batting cage and more parking space.

• If needed, a long-term wellness plan is created. Zooming in School counselor Amanda French said mental health became a new focus at the school in 2023, when it created a small mental health group with educators, nurses and volunteers. French said the goal is to add at least two more counselors to the mental health program in the next year or two.
